• CNUE is the official organization representing the interests of the 40,000 notaries in the European Union in dealings with the European institutions. It expresses towards these positions and negotiates, on behalf of the entire profession, on the basis of the joint resolutions of its members.
• CNUE is composed of national notarial organizations from 22 EU Member States: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Croatia (starting with 1.07.2013 when Croatia becomes a member), Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain. The Turkish notariat has the status of observing member.
• The member notariats are represented in the CNUE General Assembly – the main decision-making body of the organization - by the presidents of the national notarial bodies.
• CNUE operates under the authority of a President that represents at political level, the interests of the organization and expresses public positions, on its behalf, being elected for one year mandate.At the moment (2014), the CNUE presidency is held by André Michielsens, Belgium..
• CNUE has its headquarters in Brussels and it is an independent institution in relation with the International Union of Notaries (UINL).
• Between the two bodies – the global one and the European one – there are close relations of cooperation.

• UINL is a non-governmental organization established to promote, coordinate and to develop the function and the notarial activity throughout the world.
• Initially composed, in 1948, at the moment of its creation, of 19 countries, UINL currently brings together 83 worldwide notarial organizations
• It is led by Steering Committee composed of councilors.
• The decision-making body is the General Assembly where each notariat is entitled to one vote, regardless of its importance.
• The General Council is composed of 160 members and of continental and intercontinental commissions.
• The commissions and the working groups deal with notarial topics from the technical and legal viewpoints, they organize study days and workshops.
• The commissions are divided in continental commissions (African Affairs Commission, American Affairs Commission, European Affairs Commission and Asian Affairs Commission) and intercontinental commissions (International Notarial Co-operation Commission, Advisory Commission, Themes and Congresses Commission, Notarial Social Security Commission, Notarial Deontology Commission and Human Rights Commission.).

• To promote and to apply the fundamental principles of the civil law notarial system and the principles of notarial deontology;
• To represent the member notariats and to co-operate with international organizations;
• To collaborate with national bodies and institutional authorities in every country;
• To study the legislation in the field of notarial activities and to co-operate in order to harmonize national legislations;
• To promote, to organize and to develop the professional training and support scientific works in the notarial field;
• To promote and to organize international congresses, conferences and meetings.
